Fractional product designer and UX designer
Fractional Product Designer
“Our product keeps getting more complex, and nobody owns the design.”
As a fractional product designer and fractional UX designer, I own the design of complex, data-heavy products: information architecture, dashboards, the design system and the quality bar. Senior design leadership, 1–3 days a week.
What you get
- End-to-end product design across the system, not screen by screen
- Information architecture for complex systems: navigation, data models made visible, multi-step workflows
- Dashboards and data-heavy screens: tables, filters, states and density
- Design system ownership and governance
- Design strategy aligned to product and business goals
- User research synthesis and validation rounds
- Continuous developer collaboration and QA
- Mentorship for in-house designers and design reviews
Who it suits
- Series A / Series B startups scaling a complex B2B product
- Cybersecurity, AI, or automotive products with deep workflows
- Dashboards, analytics and data-heavy admin tools
- A replacement for hiring a full-time senior designer or design lead
- Re-platforming or a major UX overhaul
Typical timeline: 3+ months, 1–3 days/week. Built for startups and product teams, working alongside your product and engineering.
How it works
- 01
Days that fit the work
A fixed number of days each week, or flexible hours as the work needs. We agree on it up front and adjust as the product moves.
- 02
Inside your team
I work with product managers, development teams, architects, marketing and QA, in your tools and at your rhythm.
- 03
Independent from day one
I manage my own tasks and priorities, and get into a new product quickly.
I worked as an employee before going freelance, so I know team work from the inside: what product managers, several development teams, architects, marketing and QA each need from design, and when. I was the only designer in the company at GfK, Optibus and Gigya.
Where I’ve owned design inside a team
General Motors, an electric-vehicle innovation unit: I owned UI/UX for the Bolt EV and Hummer Off-Road apps as a freelance designer, working closely with product and engineering.
“I had the pleasure of managing Lia during her freelance engagement at General Motors. Lia is a talented Product Designer with a great eye for detail and a real ability to make complex products feel simple and intuitive. During her time with us, she worked on the Bolt EV and Hummer EV Off-Road mobile experiences, collaborating closely with Product and Engineering to create intuitive, high-quality user experiences.”

“It was a pleasure working with Lia. She's a real UX & product expert and a great team player. I hope we will collaborate again in the future.”
